Hamburger Buns
Ingredients
- 1⁄2 cup water
- 1 cup milk
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3 1⁄2 to 4 cups bread flour
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
- 1 egg, egg wash
- sesame seeds, optional
Directions
Preheat the oven to 400°F.
1. In a microwave-safe bowl, warm the milk and water to 110°F.
2. Stir in honey, and active dry yeast, and let sit for 10 minutes or until very bubbly.
3. In a stand mixer bowl, combine 3-1/2 cups of flour and salt, and mix with a dough hook.
4. Add the contents of the liquid mixture and melted butter to the stand mixer bowl and mix for 4-5 minutes. If the mixture is too wet, add the remaining flour (a tablespoon at a time) until the dough is smooth.
5. Remove the dough, shape it into a ball, and place it in a greased bowl. Let it rise for 30-60 minutes or until doubled in size.
6. Punch the dough down and divide it into 9 equal-sized pieces. Shape each piece into a dough ball, then flatten it into a 3-inch disc and place it on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
7. Cover and let rise for 30 minutes or until doubled in size.
8. In a small bowl, beat an egg and brush it on top of the buns. Optional: Sprinkle with sesame seeds.
9. Bake for 15 minutes or until the rolls are lightly browned and cooked through.
10. Once baked, remove the buns from the oven and place them on a cooling rack. For softer buns, cover them with a clean dish towel while they cool.
Enjoy!
Notes
The room temperature will affect the dough's rise time.
