Bee's Wax Lip Balm
Prep Time: 15 mins
Cook Time: 15 mins
Yield: 3 Tubes
Ingredients
- 80 grams beeswax pellets
- 20 grams cocoa butter
- 45 grams sunflower oil
- 8 drops vitamin E oil
- 48 drops peppermint essential oil
- 1 drop lanolin
- 3 cardboard lip balm tubes
Directions
- Weigh out the beeswax pellets, cocoa butter, sunflower oil, and lanolin into a heat-proof bowl. Melt in a double boiler (you may also use a microwave, stirring every 30 seconds until melted).
- Once melted, add the Vitamin E oil and half of the peppermint essential oil to start. Mix well.
- Place a little of the melted balm onto a plate and place in the freezer for a minute; the balm hardens quickly. Once firm, test out the balm on your lips to check for a desirable consistency and desired scent. Add additional peppermint for more scent/cooling. The balm can be thickened by adding more beeswax, and thinned by adding more sunflower oil.
- Repeat step 3 until you are happy with the consistency and scent.
- Use a funnel to pour the melted lip balm mixture into each tube until they are 3/4 full. Note: you may notice a bit of a crater in the middle of the tube while the balm cools.
- Once cooled, remelt the remaining balm and fill the last 1/4 of the tubes. This last step should result in smooth tops.
- Allow to cool and enjoy!
Notes
- The balm firms up quickly and might need to be remelted throughout the process.
- The funnel might become clogged as the balm firms up. I found it easy to use a chopstick as a tool to unclog the funnel.
