This is by far the best Tikka Masala recipe out there!
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons oil
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 medium onions, diced finely
- 2 tablespoons fresh garlic cloves, finely grated
- 2 tablespoons fresh ginger, finely grated
- 1 tablespoon garam masala
- 2 teaspoons ground cumin
- 2 teaspoons coriander
- 2 teaspoons chili powder
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 14 ounces tomato puree, can
- 1 cup whole fat plain yogurt
- 1 1⁄2 cups heavy cream
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- fresh cilantro, to garnish (optional)
Directions
- Add butter, oil, and onions to a dutch oven and cook onions until caramelized, 20-30 minutes.
- Then add garlic and ginger, cook until fragrant
- Add all the spices, stir constantly for 2-4 minutes or until spices are fully toasted, be sure not to burn spices
- Add remaining ingredients and simmer for 1-2 hours, add water if it thickens too much
- Enjoy over rice and topped with cilantro
